About Peter

Peter’s Story

Reiki is what first opened my mind to a more energetic and spiritual way of life.

I didn’t have the best opinion of therapy back then. My only real experience had come in 1999, when I was 22 years old. My father had just died, and that had left me with some unresolved issues that I was struggling to deal with by myself, and in time, I slipped into depression. The doctor eventually referred me for counselling and it did not work for me at all. Whether I wasn’t ready, or the relationship between me and the counsellor wasn’t right, I don’t know, what I did know, is that it didn’t help me and I ended up feeling worse as a consequence.

Fast forward to 2014, and my wife at the time was often low level poorly. There was often something wrong, like a slight cold or a cough or just something small going on somewhere that would stop her from feeling her best. She would also worry a lot, catastrophising about what might happen, and often thinking about the worst case scenario in any given situation.

One day, seemingly out of the blue, she went and did her Reiki 1. She’d never even had a treatment before, but somehow felt that she was meant to do this.

Transformation happens

I watched with interest as then, over the next 30 days or so, she got better. Slowly but surely, all of her little maladies went away until she felt well, really well, for pretty much the first time she could remember. Then the worrying reduced too. It almost disappeared completely, and with it, the catastrophising reduced also. She no longer seemed to feel the need to think about, and dwell upon, the worst case scenario. It was incredible to observe. I remember thinking to myself “I’ve got to get me some of that!” So that’s what I did. I booked in with Di, our Reiki master, and I went and got attuned to Reiki 1 as well.

Transformation continues

Now, at that time, I was quite insensitive to the energies, and didn’t really feel much during the actual attunement, however, I did see some colours, and remember feeling warmth and cold but not knowing what it meant. What I did know, is that I felt good! At that time I used to suffer with a pain in my right knee. I’d had it for years. It always got worse when I was feeling stressed. I had been to the doctor about it, I had had x-rays at the hospital and had also had physiotherapy. I had a large rubber band and did regular exercises to strengthen the muscle in my leg which was supposed to help with the pain. Nothing ever had helped, not even painkillers, not until I was attuned to Reiki.

The knee pain disappeared overnight. I now had a new way of dealing with any stress or potential stress that came my way. Reiki. I loved the principles I had learned, they made sense to me, and helped me to instantly improve not only my outlook on life, but the way I felt inside too.

My journey with Reiki continued over the next few years, with Reiki 2 and then advanced Reiki, where the master energy comes in. I was becoming more and more aware of energy and using it and working with it on a daily basis, not only in the form of Reiki, but also in any other form it may take, broadening my awareness and skillset to now include energy clearances and teaching crystal pendulum workshops.

NLP changes my life

I became a practitioner of NLP – Neuro Linguistic Programming in 2016.

I remember sitting in the classroom every Saturday and Sunday, once a month for a year thinking “Why was I not taught this at school?!”

It was powerful stuff. I really took it all in and it completely changed the way I was able to communicate with myself and the world. It helped me at home in my marriage and with my children, and also at work, and then in every social interaction I would ever have moving forwards from then.

Soon after that I went and learned IEMT – Integral Eye Movement Technique. Wow! Another powerful therapeutic modality that I absolutely love. The strapline of the association is ‘Change, in the blink of an eye’ and that is so right! It can cause such dramatic effects to happen so quickly and never ceases to amaze me, even today.

By 2020 I had finished further training and qualified as an NLP master practitioner, which helped yet again, to deepen my understanding of both myself and others, helping further still to improve my communication skills and help me to become more self aware.

Sound Therapy as a catalyst

I undertook my Sound Therapy training in 2023, qualifying towards the end of March. It was like no training experience I had ever had before.

When I stepped into the cabin with the gongs and other wonderful instruments, I felt like I was home. It then felt like I was remembering, not learning, as we went along and got to know the various instruments. I felt somehow energetically connected with it all, and I always knew what my intention was when playing an instrument, what effect I was going for and what influence it had on a persons energy.

I felt confident and natural and was loving every minute of it! When it came time to do my case studies, I got them all organised quickly, I did extra too, and wrote them all up straight away, reflecting healthily on what worked and what I could change, and making little tweaks to my practice here and there accordingly. It was different to any other previous experience I had  whilst training, and I was really enjoying it.

I went back and finished the training, qualifying on a Wednesday afternoon. That weekend, I did a treatment on anyone I could get my hands on, my wife, my mum, my sister, my mother in law etc… and was enjoying this new passion and excitement I was feeling. My job for all of this time had been as the assistant manager at a national kitchen retailer, and when I went back into work on the Monday I felt different. I came home that night and declared that I had felt a shift in my identity. I no longer felt like I was a kitchen designer, I felt instead, that I now identified as a Sound Therapist. We sat that evening and excitedly came up with a 5 year plan, which culminated in me being a fully self employed therapist. It was an exciting thought.

I went in to work the next day and was busy telling a couple of my colleagues about my news when my manger came in. That was odd, it was his day off. He called me into his office and closed the door. The company had taken the decision to get rid of the assistant manager role. I was being made redundant. It felt like fate. Like it was meant to be. I had felt a shift in my identity, I had responded by accepting it and planning my new future, and now that new future was coming to me!

So I believe I am doing what I am meant to be doing. I am being of service. I love helping people. I love introducing people to new concepts and ideas, broadening their horizons and maybe showing them a different perspective. I love helping people to think better and feel better and now I am fortunate enough to get to call this work.

Final Note

These therapies are complementary approaches and do not replace professional medical care. If you are ever in doubt, please seek advice from your GP before attending. You are always welcome to contact me directly to discuss whether a therapy is suitable for you.

What are complementary and alternative therapies?

Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) refers to practices that are not currently considered part of standard health care. Standard health care is often called ‘conventional medicine’ and is used by medical doctors and other health professionals.

Although ‘complementary and alternative’ is often used as a single term, there is a clear distinction between the two therapies:

  • Complementary therapies are called this because they are used alongside conventional medicine to ‘complement’ and enhance standard health care. For example, reiki may be offered to help ease the unpleasant side effects of breast cancer treatments such as hot flashes, nausea, vomiting and pain.
  • Alternative medicine, on the other hand, is often used instead of conventional medicine – especially in circumstances where other methods have proven unsuccessful.

In many cases, complementary and alternative medicines are delivered in the form of integrative care. This means conventional medicine and complementary therapies are used alongside one another – often delivered by a team of health professionals from both fields. For example, in the case of cancer care, patients may be offered complementary programmes such as reiki to help manage their stress and create an overall sense of well-being.

Do you guarantee the therapeutic outcomes?

No. Just like any medicine or other therapeutic treatment, there can be no guarantees of success. Each person is unique and different in their skills, knowledge and experience, and as such, no two issues a therapist would be presented with are ever going to be the same. This is very much a team effort, and the relationship between therapist and client is very important, I will not be doing anything ‘to’ you as such, what I do is work very much with you to help you arrive at the outcome you want in the best and most effective way for you, and that can be different for everyone. If at any point I feel that I can’t help you any further, I will happily signpost you to a different therapist, that I know and trust, and feel to be a good fit for you.

Do I have to go into the details of why I need therapy?

No. You are in control. You can give me as much or as little detail as you feel comfortable doing.

Some therapies don’t require any content at all, as long as you can hold a thought in your mind, they can still be used effectively.

Generally speaking though, it can be good to get things off your chest and the more detail you can give me, the greater chance I have of helping you get to the bottom of your issue.

How much does therapy cost?

There are different fees to pay depending on which therapy you have. Here is a link to my Prices page where you will find information about the investment that different therapies require and also some nice packages I have put together to offer added value.
