What is a sound bath?

Sound therapy is the use of special instruments, tones, and vibrations in order to bring balance to the body, mind, and spirit. By working with carefully chosen frequencies, it creates a soothing atmosphere that encourages deep relaxation, calms the nervous system, and allows emotional release to happen naturally.

Everything in life carries a vibration—including us. That’s why music can be so powerful, sparking memories or shifting our mood in an instant. Sound healing, which has its roots in ancient practices, works with this principle by using tonal frequencies to restore harmony and bring the body back into balance.

So how does it work?

In a sound healing session, often called a sound bath, you simply make yourself comfortable—lying on a yoga mat or sitting in a chair, or in the case of my floating sound baths, laying on your very own double air bed, often with a blanket to stay cosy. From there, you just listen as I play a range of instruments, allowing the sounds and vibrations to wash over you.

As the session unfolds, the frequencies help to gently slow your brain waves into a deeply restorative state. This activates the parasympathetic nervous system—your body’s natural self-healing response—often leaving you feeling calm, grounded, and refreshed.

What are the benefits?

One of the most universal benefits of sound therapy is deep relaxation. The sounds work through the whole system, encouraging everything to settle back into harmony. With most of us living such busy lives and being immersed in constant noise, giving yourself that time to truly rest is powerful in itself.

It supports physical, mental, social, emotional, spiritual and energetic well-being.

Beyond relaxation, sound healing can support physical, emotional, mental, and energetic wellbeing. People often notice a lift in mood, a calmer mind, and a sense of renewed balance. It can also help to reduce stress, ease anxiety, and support emotional release.

It helps to clear energetic blockages.

Some people experience a strong sense of release or describe it as a “reset,” as the vibrations encourage energy to flow more freely through the body. It’s sometimes compared to an energetic massage, leaving you feeling lighter, clearer, and replenished.

It boosts your heath.

And while sound therapy may feel mystical, there is growing scientific research showing its benefits. Studies suggest (and lots of real life feedback tells us) that sound can support better sleep, reduce chronic pain, and even lower blood pressure.

(For any medical conditions, though, I always recommend consulting a qualified healthcare professional alongside complementary therapies like this.)

What to expect from a sound healing session with Peter

Like with most healing modalities and meditative practices, everyone’s experience is unique and different, and new things may come up in each session. Most people will feel very relaxed and peaceful during a sound healing; some might have visualisations, some might feel like they have been on a journey or have an emotional breakthrough. Whatever it feels like for you is absolutely fine, and completely your own.

Sound Bath After Care

After a sound bath, people often experience lots of different feelings and sensations, just like they do during a sound bath.

It is common to feel lighter, like a weight has been lifted from you. People often feel either sleepy or tired, or wide awake and fully focussed, both are perfectly normal.

Sound baths work with your body’s energy.

Because of this, it is possible that you may experience some form of release of any trapped emotion that may be stored anywhere within your system. This could be in a way such as crying. Tears can be a lovely clean release, flushing through your system helping to clear out any residual upset that wasn’t dealt with properly in the past. On occasion, this has been reported to feel like it is uncontrollable, however, it is important to know that whatever emotion you may be feeling, and whatever emotion you may be releasing, it is only temporary, the feeling will pass and you will feel better afterwards for releasing it. Just like with a massage, sometimes, a sound bath can lead to a physical detox like symptoms. Some of these could be: a change in bowel movements or increased urination, and different feelings or sensations of movement within the body.

Just as with trapped emotion, energetic practices such as sound baths can help to release other trauma that may have been stored within your energy system. A rarer example of this could be symptoms of previous illness. Once in a while, people have displayed symptoms of previous illnesses in the days immediately following a sound bath. It could be that the body is releasing memory of that trauma in the form of the symptom or, of course, it could just be coincidental and the participant caught a bug from somewhere.

Important Self Care

After experiencing a sound bath, it is important to be kind to yourself. Whatever comes up for you in terms of memories and emotions, do your best not to judge yourself, just observe them, and allow them to pass.

It is important to drink plenty of water, and it is preferable to avoid alcohol or other recreational drugs for at least 24 hours afterwards.

Floating Sound Baths

Experience a new dimension of tranquility with our Floating Sound Baths, an enhanced version of the traditional sound bath. While standard sound baths already provide soothing vibrations that help calm the mind and restore balance, floating sound baths take this relaxation to a deeper level by immersing you in both sound and gentle, weightless sensations.

As you float effortlessly in a warm, soothing environment, the healing sounds wrap around you from all angles, creating a fully immersive experience. This floating sensation allows for deeper relaxation of the body, as the absence of gravity reduces physical tension and supports profound mental clarity. With the additional benefit of buoyancy, the vibrations are felt more intensely, helping to release stress, clear blockages, and promote deep emotional healing.
